Dear Colleagues, we are pleased to cordially invite you to 10th International Meeting «Photosynthesis and Hydrogen Energy Research for Sustainability – 2019» in honor of Kimiyuki Satoh (Japan), Tingyun Kuang (China), Cesare Marchetti (Italy) and Anthony Larkum (Australia), which will be held on June 23 – 28, 2019 in St. Petersburg, in the Palace of Beloselsky – Belozersky (Nevsky prospect, 41)

Your participation is important for the success of the Meeting, and will be very much appreciated. This Meeting will be a great occasion for discussions of previous, present, and future research on photosynthesis and hydrogen energy, from molecular to global, and will provide an exciting scientific program, which will cover the breadth and depth of photosynthesis and hydrogen energy, from fundamental and applied aspects of research to artificial photosynthesis and nanobiotechnology, and to meet researchers of photosynthesis and hydrogen energy from around the world. This meeting will provide a forum for students, postdoctoral fellows and scientists from different countries to deepen their knowledge and understanding, widen professional contact, to create new opportunities and establish new collaborations. Moreover, one of the sessions will be devoted to the talks of young scientists and to their rewarding.

International Conference «Photosynthesis and Hydrogen Energy Research for Sustainability – 2019» is a traditional event held in various countries of the world. The Conference, first organized in 2004, has a positive dynamic of development, evoking an ever-growing interest among the global scientific community. It is planned that more than 200 scientists will take part in the conference. As expected, scientists from more than thirty countries of the world will attend the event (Australia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Bulgaria, Great Britain, Hungary, Germany, Greece, Denmark, Israel, India, Iran, Italy, Canada, China, Lithuania, New Zealand, Poland Republic of Korea, Russia, Romania, Serbia, Singapore, Slovakia, USA, Taiwan, Turkey, Finland, France, Switzerland, Sweden, Estonia and Japan).

The Conference «Photosynthesis and Hydrogen Energy Research for Sustainability – 2019» will provide in-depth discussion of one of the most important fundamental problems of modern biology – photosynthesis. Despite the stupendous achievements in recent decades in the study of photosynthesis, many aspects of this process remain uninvestigated. In addition, the relevance of research in the field of photosynthesis and associated hydrogen release processes in recent decades has been reinforced by the growing need of mankind for new sources of energy. Scientific knowledge about the mechanisms of transformation and storage of solar energy, the stability of the photosynthetic apparatus to stress conditions can be applied for environmentally friendly and resource-saving energy and the formation of new energy sources.

From late May to early July nights are bright in Saint Petersburg, but the real White Nights normally last from June 11 to July 2. The nature of the White Nights (Beliye Nochi) can be explained by the geographical location of Saint Petersburg. It is the world’s most northern city with a population over 5 million.

This conference will enable organizers to introduce awards (9 awards/prize) to young researchers. The awards will be presented to young researchers who have done outstanding research in the field of photosynthesis, hydrogen energy, plant biology, nanomaterials​ and nanotechnology research for sustainability.

The meeting will cover the following topics:

The conference will be carried out in two main directions. (1) “Photosynthesis Research for Sustainability”, which will be devoted to the study of the structure, functions and biogenesis of the photosynthetic apparatus. Within this direction, the problems of light-driven processes of photosynthesis, regulation of photosynthesis and its metabolism, as well as the sustainability of the photosynthetic apparatus to stress factors will be discussed. (2) “Hydrogen Energy Research for Sustainability” will be devoted to the studies of biological production of hydrogen. This direction of the Conference will include recent advances in the study of the molecular basis of photosynthetic hydrogen formation. Both directions include fundamental and applied aspects of research, and works in the field of artificial photosynthesis and nanotechnology.

It is required to be a registered participant to submit an abstract (one abstract per participant). Abstracts will be accepted only when the full registration fee has been paid.

a. Abstracts must be in English.
b. Each abstract is limited to one page A4 size. Leaving 3 cm for each of the left, right, and upper margins and 7 cm for the bottom margin.
c. Use the font Times New Roman of 12 pt in single spacing or equivalent system font.
d. Use superscripts and subscripts for chemical formulas and Greek symbols from “Insert special symbols” menu. Do not use special fonts (i.e. Symbol).
e. Do not include figures or tables in the abstract.
f. Look for the abstracts from previous meetings on this website for additional guidance.

a. Each abstract must be identified with a Session number in the first line. e.g. S1.1

From late May to early July nights are bright in Sankt-Peterburg, but the real White Nights normally last from June 11 to July 2. The nature of the White Nights (Beliye Nochi) can be explained by the geographical location of Sankt-Peterburg. It is the world’s most northern city with a population over 1 million.

You will drive to places that have long become the symbols of St. Petersburg on a comfortable bus.
The first and the main point of the trip will be a visit to the Peter and Paul fortress, where you will learn how St. Petersburg was founded, you will see the ancient buildings, casemates and tombs. The Botanical Garden of Saint Petersburg

The Botanical Garden of Saint Petersburg, also known as Botanical Garden of the Komarov Botanical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, is one of the oldest botanical gardens in Russia. It is situated on Aptekarsky Island and consists of outdoor and indoor plant collections. The Garden, covering an area of about 1 hectare and of 1 km total length, includes wonderful park areas and several greenhouses. Nowadays, plant collections in greenhouses count over 10 thousand taxa, including species from the most remote and exotic parts of the world.

Eхсlusively for the participants of the 10th International Conference “Photosynthesis and Hydrogen Energy Research for Sustainability — 2019”, the Botanical Garden is pleased to offer a special excursion ‘World’s tropical plants and Victoria House’. For visitors’ convenience, a maximum number of participants in a group is limited to 15 persons. A maximum number of ten groups are foreseen during the Welcome party time (20:30 – 22:00) on June, 23.

Duration of the excursion is 40 – 60 min.

Парк-дендрарий Ботанического сада Ботанического института им. В.Л. Комарова РАН является одним из старейших парков России. Парковая часть занимает 16,7 га, включая площадь под деревьями и кустарниками, газоны, горки, цветники и питомники. В оранжереях протяженностью более километра оранжерей произрастает более 10 тысяч видов экзотических растений из различных уголков Земного шара; это пятая по численности коллекция в мире и самая крупная северная коллекция!

Для участников 10й Международной конференции “Фотосинтез и водородная энергетика для устойчивого развития — 2019” Ботанический сад предлагает специальную экскурсию ‘Тропический маршрут и Викторная оранжерея’.
